His Holiness gave two public dharma teachings in the afternoon at the Waldorf-Astoria Ballroom in the Midtown area of Manhattan.

The talks began on a delightful note, as a representative of Michael R. Bloomberg, Mayor of New York City, presented His Holiness with and read aloud a proclamation from the Mayor recognizing May 15-21, 2008 to be “His Holiness the Seventeenth Gyalwang Karmapa Week” in New York City.
讲法有一个愉悦的开始，先由纽约市市长迈克尔·彭博（Michael R. Bloomberg）的代表向法王大声朗读市长的一份声明：宣布2008年5月15日至21日为纽约“第十七世法王噶玛巴周” 。

In discussing the topic “Cutting Through Confusion: Discovering the Wisdom of Our Own Minds,” His Holiness gave incredibly practical and useful advice about how to transcend the cultural trappings that may come to be associated with meditation practice and, rather, allow one’s mind to relax and be wakeful in a natural, uncontrived way. His Holiness discussed a broad range of other topics as well, occasionally delving into his impressive English vocabulary, to the great delight of the sold-out audience.
在讨论“斬斷迷亂，領悟心的智慧”主题时，法王就禅修如何超越文化鸿沟给予了极为实用的建议，能使人更放松，在自然无造作中保持觉知。法王还探讨了其他广泛的话题，偶尔冒出几个令人印象深刻的英语单词，使听众大为高兴。

The day concluded with a blessing audience for members of the Buddhist organizations that have worked together to plan and administer His Holiness’s visit. At this audience, His Holiness answered the pre-submitted questions of the audience and extended his heartfelt gratitude to those who have made his trip to the United States possible: the United States government, the Indian government, the Tibetan Government-in-Exile, and, most importantly, his students and dharma friends in the United States.
当天在共同策划和管理此次法王访问的全体佛教组织成员的集体觐见和加持中结束。对于此次觐见，法王回答了信众预先提交的几个问题，并且由衷地感谢使他美国行成真的人：美国政府，印度政府，西藏流亡政府，最重要的是，他在美国的弟子和法友。

Following the audience, Dzogchen Ponlop Rinpoche, the principal organizer of Karmapa in America ’08, gave a thank-you speech in which he expressed gratitude to all of the participating sanghas and praise to the great city of New York.
觐见结束后，08年噶玛巴访问美国的组织方——竹庆.本乐仁波切发表了感谢致辞，他对所有参加活动的僧众表示感谢，并对纽约这个伟大的城市表示赞赏。
